Welcome to my “40 Again” 40th Birthday Party Celebration! You may saying, “huh?”, 40 again? Doesn’t she mean 39 again? Nope! My 40th birthday was pretty much a disaster (I won’t throw my husband under the bus just yet), so this year I decided to have a redo. I wanted lots of sparkle, glitter, hot pink, purple and gold! So, along with the help of my besties and my husband, we put together this fun little party for me!
In The Spotlight:
- Glittered gold “40 Again” hanging backdrop
- DIY purple tissue paper flowers with gold fringed centers
- Hot pink sequined backdrop and beautiful, textured hot pink table runners from fabric
- Tissue paper fans used to create a display wall for cupcake favors
“40 Again” 40th Birthday Party Celebration
When I thought about what theme I wanted to have for my redo 40th birthday party celebration, I knew I wanted everything have glitter and to sparkle!
The very first thing I did for this party was create the large gold glittered “40” sign. I knew I wanted to have that for a backdrop, but finding numbers that large is not easy! We purchased large “H” and “O” wood letters from Hobby Lobby and were about to paint them, when we realized they were going to be way too heavy to hang. So, we traced the letters onto foam board and cut them out, then trimmed the H to to look like a 4! Genius, right? We cut out “again” from glittered purple cardstock using our Silhouette and hot glued it to the 40.
The hot pink sequined backdrop was created from a few yards of fabric I picked up at 50% off from JoAnn Fabrics. The table runners were also made from a beautiful textured hot pink fabric that I simply cut down into strips and laid on the table. Dramatic look, and no sewing!
Pink Poppy Party Shoppe created this amazing, gold glittered cake topper for my birthday cake! Because we had so many yummy goodies, I opted to make my own simple pink rosette cake in red velvet, my favorite flavor. The hot pink striped popcorn boxes from Oriental Trading were the perfect size for our homemade caramel popcorn.
I made 4 of these DIY tissue paper flowers from purple and gold tissue paper. They were fun and easy to make with a few packs of tissue paper and scissors. I will post a tutorial on those later this week!
We had cupcakes in 3 different flavors from Hey Sugar!: Oreo Cookie, Carrot Cake, and Chocolate (which I used as favors). We placed hot pink and purple glittered cupcake wrappers from Painting Paris Pink around the cupcakes, and added “40” with fondant toppers from Sweets & Treats Design Studio on top!
The menu for the evening had all of my favorite things! We had cheese fondue with all the fixings (french bread, granny smith apples, carrots), my grandmother’s amazing sweet & sour meatballs, my artichoke cheese dip, goat cheese and olive tapenade, bacon wrapped potato bites, and assorted sandwiches. (Thanks Shannon!)
For the sweets, we had chocolate fondue with all the fixings (pound cake, bananas, marshmallows, pineapple, strawberries), Strawberry Cake Pops and Chocolate Covered Oreos that I made, the most delicious French Macarons from elle Bakes, Stacked Cookies from Creating Awesomenessity made just for me, and cupcakes! Oh, and red velvet cake. Whew! Thankfully everyone brought their sweet tooth.
We had gold and hot pink napkins, gold utensils, and hot pink paper plates from Oriental Trading. I was surprised at how great the quality was! The utensils were extra sturdy, not flimsy at all, which I admit I was a little worried about. But they were beautiful and went perfectly with my theme and colors too!
My husband surprised me during the party by pulling out this “Costner” board with all of Kevin Costner’s movies! He knows I have been a huge fan ever since I fell in love with Dances With Wolves 20+ years ago, so he deiced to make a game and see how many of Kevin’s movies everyone could guess by only looking at 1 photo from the movie. (Thanks babe!)
Any guesses who won? 🙂 That’s right – ME! It would have been very shameful had I lost! Wow, what a cutie. He still has my heart.
I wanted to send the girls home with a little thank you, so we set up this beautiful backdrop for the favor boxes with purple paper fans from & Oriental Trading. They literally came together in minutes and looked so great when we added a couple of gold poms I had on hand. (Thanks Jen!) The girls all took home chocolate cupcakes in hot pink favor boxes from Oriental Trading.
I had such a great time celebrating with my friends, and I was so thankful that my 2 best friends drove 3+ hours, not only to attend, but they also helped me put it all together. That’s what friends are for! I have great new memories to replace the not-so-good and a shiny new “40” sign now, so I think I am going to stay 40 again, 40 forever. 🙂
